I am always surprised and, at the same time, delight national dishes with its simplicity and affordability. Vertuta - a representative of Moldavian cuisine, has an attractive and unusual appearance, it is made with various fillings, both sweet and savory. Those who like a lot of toppings and little dough, this is the dish for you.
In order for the filling to acquire a more refined and rich taste, you can add spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, star anise.
Let's start cooking the twirls with the filling. To do this, wash and dry the apples.
Cut the prepared apples into small pieces or, as in this case, straws.
Take a pot with a thick bottom, sprinkle apples there, season them with spices, add sugar, butter. With regard to sugar, focus on your taste, and apples can have different sweetness. Stew apples for 10-15 minutes, at the very beginning you can add a little water. The main thing is that the filling does not turn into mashed potatoes.
Cover apples and set aside to cool.
Now you need to knead the dough. Sift flour.
Add the liquid ingredients, sugar and salt to the flour. The dough should be elastic, not stick to your hands. If the dough sticks, add a little more flour. Form a ball from the dough.
Cover the dough with a towel or wrap with cling film and send for half an hour in the refrigerator.
Sprinkle the table with flour, lay out the dough, roll it into a thin layer.
Cut the dough into strips, the width should be such that you can lay out the filling and close the edges. If there is excess liquid in the filling, then it is better to decant it using a colander. Put the filling on the strips of dough, departing from the edges of 1-1.5 cm.
Gently connect the edges, making pinches. It is important that the edges are tightly closed so that the filling does not run out.
Now in each "sausage" to close the edges so that it becomes airtight. Gently roll up, while you can twist it like a tourniquet. Grease the resulting shells with a beaten egg.
Send to the oven preheated to 180 degrees. Bake until golden brown (about 30 minutes, but it all depends on the characteristics of the oven). Bon Appetit!
